Finish telecom and tech major, Nokia, has reportedly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Nedaa, the Dubai government's security network provider, to upgrade the latter’s network across Radio Access Networks (RAN) as well as core.

As per reports, the upgrade will be done by leveraging 5G as well as the Finnish group’s innovative technologies, which will help Nedaa offer better smart city and public safety services to businesses and citizens, while laying down the foundation required for more advanced technologies.

While Nedaa already uses Nokia’s infrastructure and can handle the requirements for mission-critical networks, it will be able to support enhanced technologies related to public operations and management of key operations with the introduction of 5G.

These include immersive applications for video surveillance and remote control, connected and automated vehicles, and first responders, and managing several IoT applications, sensors, and connected devices.

Under the MoU, a framework for upgrading current network capabilities will be set up, and agile and advanced services will be introduced to government agencies based on reliable and secure networks.

5G network slicing will be a key component to help Nedaa offer segment-related solutions to various sectors, like transport and oil and gas among other government verticals.

The MoU will also help in the identification of the most appropriate cases of 5G uses to seize new opportunities and monetization.

Meanwhile, Nokia will implement a technology competence development program for training and transferring knowledge to Nedaa staff.

The group will also extend its state-of-the-art Integrated Operations Center (IOC) to integrate and enable all 5G use cases, such as public safety and smart city applications and Industry 4.0, and for future services like metaverse.

H.E Mansoor Bu Osaiba, head of Nedaa, noted that Nokia is a global leader in technology and the firm’s trusted and long-standing partner, and its proven 5G expertise will maximize the benefits of upgrading technology to offer users innovative services with next-gen network capabilities.

Kamal Ballout, Head of Enterprise, Nokia CHIMEA, stated that company is excited to work with Nedaa, and that network slicing will allow critical communication customers to benefit from secure, private, and high-performance wireless connectivity across various industries.
